BBC Proms 2013

BBC Proms 2013 Royal Albert Hall

The BBC Proms has just begun and this year they are televising more concerts than ever before. This is really great news for those of us who aren't fortunate enough to live in the UK or to get tickets. The opening concert or First Night of the Proms took place tonight played by the BBC Symphony Orchestra and their new conductor, Sakari Oramo. The concert featured some of my favourite composers and pieces. The highlights included Britten Four Sea Interludes from "Peter Grimes", Rachmaninov Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Lutoslawski Paganini variations (which I blogged about recently) and Vaughan Williams A Sea Symphony.
